“I was 17-year-old then.
I still remember the celebration held during his birth. The sugar was
brought in bullock carts and distributed in bamboo mora which was
common then. The celebrations were very high in the palace during the
time,” said 77-year-old Kamalakshmi with tears sliding down from
eyes.
“I was residing near
Kesare, then called as Kalpavruksha Nagar. Jayachmarajendra Wodeyar
had distributed sugar across city, spreading the happy news. Its very
unfortunate today am witnessing his funeral. What an irony,” added
Kamalakshmi with moist eyes.
“Narasimharaja Wodeyar
used to bring his sisters to Maharani College. They were given
education in separate classrooms. I questioned our teachers in this
regard. Later, he made me to understood their highness,” she added.
Kamalakshmi had also witnessed the death of Sri Jayachamaraja Wodeyar
in 1974, last Maharaja of the princely state of Mysore and father of
Narasimhara Wodeyar.
Reminiscing the early
days, another 75-year-old Sarojamma said that
Jayachamarajenda Wodeyar
also passed away in Bangalore Palace and it is very unfortunate that
the last Ruler of the Yadu dynasty too passed away in Bangalore.
“During the death of
Jaya Chamarajaendra Wodeyar common people were not allowed inside.
Only members belonging to the royal family, his dear and near ones
were given entry. We came wearing sarees while men had came dressed
in white dothi.”
Earlier to democracy, when
the King ruled, they gave special attention for the upliftment of
poor families, making them economically stronger, poviding job in the
palace, she added.
72-year-old Javarappa og
Gejjige, Mysore Taluk said: “The legacy of Narasimharaja Wodeyar
began and ended in front of my eyes. Though an another member from
the family may be chosen to sit on the throne, the charisma and
respect the Royal lineage got can never be compared. With the death
of 26th Ruler of Yadu Dynasty, the Mysore's Royal dynasty
has come to an end,” he added.
Infact, among majority of
the senior citizens who are now in their mid of 60's and 80s have
witnessed the death of last two rulers of Yadu Dynasty and birth of
Narasimharaja Wodeyar.
