Midnight extravaganza heralds new year eve


Mysoreans welcomed 2014, with lot of fun and entertainment. Apart from hotels, clubs, good number of people flocked in several localities to celebrate the day.

Soon the clock striked 12 at Midnight, dazzling fireworks filled the sky. Women were seen drawing colourful rangolis in front of houses, greeting people for happy and prosperous beginning. Mid night mass prayers were held at Churches and greetings were exchanged. Belly dance, fashion shows were organised at hotels, clubs.

Unbothered of chill weather, Youngsters in large number ventured out with lot of cheers. They passed over main thoroughfares of the city, blowing trumpets, making huge noise, and greeting passers by. Some of the youngsters were seen taking resolution like giving up their bad habits, forgetting of bad memories and several other.

Women in several localities were seen playing musical chair, Anthakshari, passing the ball forming circle on the middle of the road. Distributing sweets, cutting cakes, was common sight witnessed.

Kavya, a resident of KG Koppal said: “From last six year we neighbors get together and welcome the day with lot of fun and frolic. We play good music, conduct various sports activities, competition and celebrations end by 3 am.”

Jaganath resident of Agrahar said: “I had planned for the day from a week. Friends from Bangalore have joined for the celebrations, which has made me the day more memorable.”

High Security was beefed up in city. Police were seen dispersing crowd at Agrahara, KG Koppal, Khille Mohalla around 1 am. From wee hours of the day people were seen thronging to temples to seek blessings of god. Prasadam, ladoos were distributed at temples across the city.
